The Road to Panama: Mandates for Action


The Seventh Summit of the Americas will take place in Panama on April 10-11, 2015 where the Heads of State and Governments will address the theme “Prosperity with Equity: The Challenge of Cooperation in the Americas”.

In preparation for this event, the Summits of the Americas Secretariat and the Department of International Affairs of the Organization of American States (OAS) will host a second round of activities with civil society and social actors of the hemisphere to formulate recommendations on the document, Mandates for Action that will be negotiated by States prior to the Summit.

The second round of activities are as follows:

  1. Dialogue - The Road to Panama: Mandates for Action, OAS Headquarters, Washington DC, February 6, 2015, 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (Eastern Time). The first session of this event will be broadcast live at


  2. National Consultations in several OAS Member States.*


  3. Virtual Forum: The virtual forum will focus on the 8 sub-themes of the Summit, detailed in the Mandates for Action document: Education, Health, Energy, Environment, Migration, Security, Citizen Participation and Democratic Governance.

    The forum will be open from February 6-18, 2015 and will provide civil society and social actor representatives the opportunity to exchange ideas and experiences, as well as offer comments and recommendations to the States on topics related to this document.

    The moderator for this forum is  Luciana Campello Ribeiro de Almeida, a researcher from Brazil with extensive experience on issues of trafficking in persons, violence prevention and labor exploitation, among others.

The results of the National Consultations and Virtual Forum will be compiled, distributed and presented to the host country for their consideration during the preparatory process of the Seventh Summit of the Americas.
